Atalaya is nestled right on the boundaries of Marbella and Benahavis and is a very popular urbanisation that actually sits mainly within the Estepona area, although arguably some if it falls within the municipality of Benahavis. Like many of the original unrbanisations, it is split into two by the main N340 / A7 road. The beach side of Atalaya is known as Atalaya Baja and the upper side as Atalaya Alta or Atalaya Golf.

It is a well-established area with many older villas and apartment complexes now mixed with a choice of modern apartments and houses. Its location and access to the other resorts such as San Pedro Alcántara and Puerto Banús make it highly sought after by property buyers, especially families who need to be close to a choice of international schools and colleges, health services and supermarkets.

Atalaya Baja: This is where you will find the Atalaya Park Hotel, an extremely popular place for holidaymakers. Situated right on the beach and boasting a huge swimming pool, tennis courts and many other facilities, it is always high on the list of people looking for a fun and active place to stay.

On the road leading up to the hotel and the immediate area around it there are a number of well-established villas and houses. Most were built in the 1970s and 80s but there is also a mix of more modern properties that have been renovated or built more recently. There is also an international school just before reaching the hotel.

Atalaya Alta: Again, there are many original properties here but in recent years it has seen some fantastic new property developments appearing and the area has become highly sought after. The addition of a Mercadona supermarket and a new international college, have made it even more desirable.

Much of the focus in Atalaya Alta is around the golf club, which features two 18-hole courses, simply called the Old and the New courses. With membership always full and many tournaments each week, it is no wonder that many people have chosen to set up home here.

One of the more recent new developments is an ambitious project called Cataleya, which from its announcement has attracted a massive amount of interest, virtually selling out while still in the off-plan stages.

Other new projects around the course include villas and townhouses, but there are many older and more substantial properties in Atalaya Golf too.
