It seems that with every passing month, there have been new reasons for those perusing the current townhouses, villas and apartments for sale in Estepona and other parts of the Costa del Sol to feel encouraged to invest. Among the most recent developments, for example, is a property market analysis by the BBVA bank, suggesting that Spanish residential property could go up in value by 2.5% during 2017.
The bank’s report predicted that a reduction in unsold stock, declining unemployment and continuing low mortgage interest rates would all help to push up the average price per square metre of housing in the country.
However, even in the absence of such positive reports, the Costa del Sol remains a highly welcoming area for prospective British investors.
The UK’s love affair with the Costa del Sol continues
On Wednesday, British Prime Minister Theresa May activated the now-infamous Article 50 starting the formal process for the UK’s departure from the EU. However, some aspects of Britons’ relationship with Europe never seem to change – or at least, haven’t since the mid-20th-century package holiday boom.
That was the period when many people from the UK first discovered the region as tourists, with generations of Britons having since made the decision to look for apartments for sale in Estepona, Marbella or other areas of the Costa del Sol and move here permanently.
The tradition is sustained today, with plenty of new property still being built, as existing apartments, bungalows, country houses and similar properties continue to enchant potential purchasers. However, while it was largely the British who first fuelled the Costa del Sol’s tourist-era urban expansion, as reflected by English becoming the area’s second language, the region now also has a very cosmopolitan flavour, thanks to residents from northern Europe.
