It is hard to imagine that just a few years ago, San Pedro de Alcantara was just a Spanish town that people tended to just pass through. But that has changed ever since the long awaited underpass was finished, the much talked about Bloulevard was constructed and developers like Taylor Wimpey built a number of top quality homes.

Why do people choose to buy San Pedro de Alcantara property?
Located just ten minutes away from Puerto Banus, the favoured hotspot of celebrities and reality stars, San Pedro de Alcantara has a very different atmosphere. Once renowned as the only place along the coast where you could get stuck in a traffic jam, the opening of a new underpass (that took many years to build and caused huge disruption to local businesses) has seen a renaissance that now puts it on a par with its more upmarket neighbours. The transformation of a 54,000 square metre site into a recreational zone featuring a new boulevard and park, to be built over the tunnel on the A-7, is under construction with some of its most important elements already completed and visible.
The town is a compact collection of straight narrow streets where traditional architecture sits side-by-side some of the more modern edifices. The top of the town is where the large main central plaza is overlooked proudly by the local church. Wander down the surrounding streets, packed with a mixture of intriguing small shops, cafes and tapas bars and then cross over the main road and head down Avenida del Marques del Duero towards the newly renovated wide beachfront promenade. This is where you will find the keep-fit fanatics, either jogging or on bikes, rollerblades and skateboards. Join the meandering people watchers and those out for an evening stroll or have a go on one of the exercise machines before taking a dip in the azure blue Mediterranean waters before sauntering up to a chiringuito, beach bar, or one of the smarter beach clubs for a bite to eat and a siesta.
Around the Boulevard and the streets heading down to the beach you will find a number of brand new restaurants, many of which people now travel to from other parts of Marbella and Estepona.
Some of the newer developments that have appeared over the last couple of years include Los Arqueros Beach and Jade Beach.
The weekly street market is held on Thursday mornings near the central plaza from 9.00 am – 2.00 pm and the annual Feria takes place from 14th – 19th October
Just a few minutes away from the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda mountains, the town conveys a more tranquil experience that attracts people looking to buy a property close to the buzz of Marbella but away from the maddening crowds and featuring everything that encapsulates living on the Costa del Sol. It does, in fact, offer the best of both worlds whether you are looking for that traditional Spanish experience or the facilities of a holiday resort.
