It is probably fair to say that the majority of visitors to Marbella think about it in terms of the summer season—sunshine and beaches. However, winter in Marbella is equally splendid. The temperatures may be a little cooler, but the sun is still there, and the days have more hours of light than in the more northerly countries, giving residents and visitors a sense of wellbeing that they are unlikely to find elsewhere in Europe.

Furthermore, because the winter climate in Marbella is so mild, it is possible to participate in a host of outdoor activities and not have to worry about feeling cold. There’s golf and horseback riding, and it is only a short trip to the Sierra Nevada range where skiing and snowboarding are on offer.

Winter is also a perfect time for hiking, and there are excellent guides to walking routes inland, which would be too hot to follow in the summer, but in winter make for much more comfortable physical exertions. Andalucía is famous for its white villages as well. You will most likely have seen enlarged photos of them when you arrived at Málaga airport. They include Ronda, Grazalema, Vejer de la Frontera and Medina Sidonia amongst others. Touring around them offers many opportunities for great days out, or weekends away, exploring these villages and the surrounding countryside.

And, we’d suggest that winter is the perfect time to visit the great cities and cultural centres of Andalucía too, because in the summer, the temperatures here soar. The three largest are Sevilla, the capital of the region, Granada and Córdoba. Each one has its unique heritage sites, such as the Giralda in Sevilla, the Alhambra Palace in Granada and the Great Mosque in Córdoba. We’d also suggest visits to the city of Cádiz, Jerez, which is famous for its sherry and horses, as well as Málaga with its numerous art galleries and excellent restaurants and shops.

What is more, when it’s winter in Marbella, there will be days when you’ll find sunbathers on the beach. Indeed, spending November to April in Marbella, could completely change your mind about winter!
