Málaga – City of Culture

Málaga, Spain’s sixth largest city and the capital of the Costa del Sol, is fast becoming one of the top European cities for culture.

As well as being home to the Picasso Museum, the Centre for Contemporary Art (CAC), featuring the very latest in modern art, and the Museo Carmen Thyssen, Málaga will play host to two exciting new permanent exhibitions both opening in March.

The former tobacco factory ‘La Tabacalera’, currently home to the Automobile Museum, will house the first overseas branch of St. Petersburg’s State Russian Museum.

Around 100 works of art, including some by Kandinsky, Chagall and Malevich, will form part of the collection and these will be accompanied by around 60 works each year sent over for temporary exhibitions.

The first of these is dedicated to Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1929) entitled ‘Russian Art of the Diaghilev Age’.

The ‘Pop-Up Pompidou’, a branch of the world renowned Pompidou Centre in France, will display selections from its seminal collection of 20th century art in a large glass cube situated in the newly renovated port area.

No wonder the city was included in the Telegraph’s ‘Top 10 European City Breaks for 2015’!
