Brexit may have been dominating the British media since 2016, but regardless of its uncertainties, British buyers are still flocking to Spain, and their primary destination is the Costa del Sol.
In 2018, some 30% of the properties bought on the Costa del Sol were sold to overseas buyers, and 16% of those buyers were British. This is encouraging news, particularly as there were few new homes built on the coast in the years following the global financial crisis. But now the British are flocking back to their favourite hotspot in the sun.
According to statistics from the Spanish National Institute, a total of 78,000 new dwellings were granted permits across Spain in 2018, an increase of 23.1% on 2017, and new builds made up 17% of total property sales. Furthermore, on the Costa del Sol there are over 200 new construction projects ongoing at the moment, and they cater for a variety of budgets.
Marbella remains a popular hotspot for buyers and there are some excellent new developments, such as this new build apartment in Benahavís.
