Marbella’s ‘Q’ quality beaches

Marbella has renewed the ‘Q’ tourist quality mark for six of its beaches: San Pedro de Alcántara, Nueva Andalucía, Marbella Central, El Faro, Puerto Banús and La Venus, while Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen has received accreditation for the quality of its services and coastal promenade.

Félix Romero, spokesperson for the municipality, made the announcement at a local government event and praised the fact that Marbella was being recognised for the quality of its coastal attractions, including the Artola dunes, which are an important environmental feature.

Marbella’s council emphasised the fact that awards are for “prestige, reliability and rigour,” adding that they highlight the importance of promoting Marbella as a quality destination and that it is a place recognised by more than 40% of visitors for the quality of its water, beaches and accompanying beach services.

Marbella council also announced that it is seeking the ‘Q’ certification for beaches at Los Monteros, El Cable, and Levante in Puerto Banús, and for the popular ‘dog-friendly’ beaches at El Pinillo and Ventura del Mar. Romero said, “Our objective is to have as many beaches and promenades as possible with this certificate, so that it attracts more visitors to Marbella.”

Furthermore, within the urban area, the local government has given the green light to a total of 11 projects with a combined cost of €18.7 million, which as Romero pointed out, “is a significant amount, and evidence of the willingness to invest in improvements.” Amongst others, one of the projects is the construction of nine single family homes in Santa Clara at a cost of €3.4 million, an apartment block in San Pedro with 65 homes at a cost of €8.8 million and three locales in the San Pedro Polígono for €1.07 million. Licences have also been issued for several other smaller projects costing between €182,000 and €422,000.
