Markets in Marbella

Marbella and Puerto Banús are renowned for the shopping to be had there, with Puerto Banús in particular being famous for the many luxury designer boutiques that line the road of this exclusive yachting marina.

However, there is definitely also much to be found for those looking to bag a bargain in this area. If you are on the lookout for something more ‘authentic’, then the local markets are a great place to start, and maybe you can find a bargain while you’re at it! The Spanish for market is ‘mercadillo’ and these will often have similar items – including clothing, belts and bags, sunglasses and jewellery – yet each one will have its own character and specialities too. A ‘rastro’ is a flea market, which nowadays mostly resembles a car boot sale.

See below for a small selection of the most famous markets on the Costa del Sol:

Nueva Andalucía
Saturday 09:00 – 14:00hrs
This is probably the most famous of the local markets and usually full of locals and tourists jostling for the great variety of goods on offer. The market starts at Centro Plaza at the Bullring and continues down the road towards Puerto Banús. Not only are the usual items for sale here but also a wide range of fruit and veg, house and garden plants, and furniture and antiques. Most stall-holders will expect you to haggle, so you may get away with a bargain!

San Pedro Alcántara
Thursday 09:00 – 14:00hrs
This market and rastro takes place on the old Fair Ground of San Pedro Alcántara and is much loved by locals. There is some great local fresh produce to be had as well as herbs and plants.

La Campana Organic Market
Every third Saturday of the month 09:00 – 14:00hrs
A small market but nonetheless with a great variety of organic produce all offered by enthusiastic stallholders happy to discuss the provenance of their goods. There is also a German stall with delicious cakes and bread, and a tiny coffee wagon handily placed just in front if you feel in need of a rest.
