Sotogrande International School (SIS)

SIS is an International Baccalaureate day and boarding school with over 40 nationalities offering the full IB programme plus outstanding language and learning support.

There is a great feeling of space on the bright, leafy campus which enhances the teaching and learning which exists in the school. The atmosphere is open and friendly. The buildings are all linked by pathways and grassed areas, and the whole campus is surrounded by woodland and open countryside.

The main building houses a fully-equipped theatre, a multimedia library, two computer labs including a Mac Lab, an art studio, and a top floor devoted to the Diploma students´ common room and resource room. The cafeteria and lunch room is also in this building.

The Early Years building includes a library especially for small children, a wealth of active learning resources, outside play areas and activity centres with direct access from classrooms.

A Primary School pod concept encourages collaborative learning through the integrated curriculum and unique classroom design. This building also has its own Mac Lab and Music Room. There is a hard court for football and basketball specifically for this age group.

An attractive timber building houses Middle Year Program (MYP) 1 & 2 and a computer lab, surrounded by a shaded terrace. The Music Room is always a hive of activity with students practising and playing together. The Secondary School houses three fully-equipped science labs, as well as dedicated language and humanities areas. Technology is an integral part of the way in which the school operates. It is a fully certified Apple school with the IT staff not only trained by Apple but who are themselves certified Apple Trainers.

The whole campus is wireless-networked. Many classrooms are equipped with data-projectors and interactive Smart boards. All Secondary school students are required to have laptops and students entering M1 are provided with one by the school. All Primary students have access to computers in the classroom. Two new buildings provide a wonderful art studio, language labs and a TV lounge.

The school’s commitment to outdoor and physical education is reflected in the onsite sports facilities which include:

A large, multi-purpose sports hall

A 25 metre swimming pool

An all-weather sports pitch and running track

Through a personalised approach to learning students are encouraged to open their hearts and minds to the joy of learning, to discover their strengths, identify their passions and develop outstanding learning skills. As a result they are achieving excellent results, with an average score of 35 points at Diploma.

“We nurture a thirst for knowledge. We enable students to develop skills, knowledge and understanding through exciting learning programmes, allowing them to explore their own learning preferences and nurture their individual talents. We create opportunities for students to discover their spiritual, mental, emotional, social and physical aspects.”

The school is proud of the academic achievements of its graduates who have entered top universities around the world. This reflects the strong academic and guidance programmes offered by SIS, enabling students to achieve their best

BECOMING A GLOBAL CITIZEN

All students are taught to think about both “me” and “we” and a big part of our school’s identity is giving back to others.

At the centre of the IB curriculum and at the heart of the school is the concept of helping people and becoming global citizens able to use education as a force for good. As a result of this vision, SIS set up an independent NGO called the Kindred Project in 2010 which offers a range of real life opportunities for students to make a difference. They are currently supporting projects in Ecuador, India, Morocco, Spain and Uganda.
