Why Marbella’s Golden Mile is so special

At approximately five kilometres long, the Golden Mile may be numerically misnamed, but in terms of the property to be found along this renowned strip of land, ‘Golden’ is most certainly not a misnomer. The straight avenue that leads from the Río Verde on the eastern edge of Puerto Banús to the outskirts of Marbella town at the Plaza Bocanegra, belies its Roman origins yet it is the latter-day proliferation of multi-million euro properties that defines it nowadays.

The strip is bisected by the main A7 coastal road and further categorised into three areas – beachside, mountainside and Sierra. Property in any of these areas is much sought-after, and prices generally reflect this.

Golden Mile Beachside
This area, as may be surmised, runs from the beach to the coastal road and contains several of the most exclusive homes and apartment complexes in the area. Luxurious villas in extensive tropical gardens are hidden from prying eyes by lush vegetation, while apartment developments such as the Puente Romano residential complex house spacious apartments, with the most sought-after being those with frontline sea views.

Golden Mile Mountainside
Leading from the inland side of the main thoroughfare to the A7 highway, this favoured area consists of commercial spaces, including prestigious interior design studios along with a variety of select bars and restaurants. Property here is a mix of ‘original’ and new Marbella, such as La Carolina from the sixties, which houses many of the areas’ commercial premises along the main road as well as luxury villa plots in the zone behind. La Trinidad is one of the newer luxury apartment residences located in beautifully landscaped parkland near the mosque built by Saudi Prince Salman in honour of his father, who was a regular visitor to Marbella.

Golden Mile Sierra
Mention Sierra Blanca property and eyes will widen – this is an area of luxury villas set in the foothills of the Sierra Blanca mountain range containing the iconic La Concha Mountain that acts as a stunning backdrop wherever you travel in Marbella. Set 300 metres above sea level, the most prestigious of these villas also boast fabulous views of to the Mediterranean coast, with Africa and Gibraltar beyond. Cascada de Camoján is another gated, secure urbanisation that reaches just a little further into the hillside, with exclusive homes in an even more natural setting.
