The Andalucía Masters Tournament is set to offer a weekend of world-class golf, so if you’re an aficionado, be sure to make your way to this fabulous course in Sotogrande on 17-21 October 2019.
Part of the European Tour, the Andalucía Masters tournament was first played at Sotogrande’s prestigious Valderrama Golf Club in 2010. Sergio García, the 2011 and 2017 champion, looks forward to another special week at the course he so loves, returning three weeks after becoming Europe’s all-time Ryder Cup points scorer.
Garcia now aims for a third Andalucía Valderrama Masters title, but there’s more to this tournament than winning the title: the Masters Tournament champion will have the honour of seeing the event hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation for the second year running.
He comments: “It’s always great to come to Valderrama, and hopefully I can keep up the good work of the past six weeks so I can give myself a chance to defend the title. I love the way this course plays, I love how tough it is even though it’s not a long golf course. It’s just testing you and every part of your game, which is always good fun. The course condition is spectacular and the greens are rolling incredibly fast and true. Valderrama should be really proud.”
There’s a distinct Ryder Cup feel at Real Club Valderrama as Garcia tees off against the likes of Thomas Bjørn, Padraig Harrington, Robert Karlsson and Lee Westwood, as well as the 2012-winning captain, José María Olazábal.
Indeed the Valderrama area of Sotogrande as a whole should be proud: it’s not just the greens that are lush and verdant. Emerald lawns, swaying palms and well-established shrubs line quiet streets filled with super-luxury, villas, townhouses and apartments. They beautifully complement the Valderrama golf course, many of which actually spill onto the greens – what better way to enjoy the sunshine than relaxing by the pool alongside the well-watered greens? Golfers are truly privileged to live amid such sought-after courses, all within or just a stone’s throw away from Sotogrande.
